Being Happy in the Workplace

Have you ever sat at your desk at work, or checked out while standing on the job, and asked yourself "Am I really happy working here?"

I have done this, many times. In reality, though, we must try to train our thoughts to think differently. Let me explain, through two examples:

1. The pessimist approach: "This job is the worst. How do I have to deal with all these people all day long? Why can't I be on a beach somewhere, drinking mimosas?"

2. The optimist approach: "This job has many benefits. I am grateful I get to help these people all day, and help them achieve their goals. I do look forward to being on a beach somewhere, which this job can help me to afford."

Our thoughts become actions. Our thoughts attract negativity or positivity. There is always a choice.

I am guilty as can be when it comes to this topic. I have been struggling for quite some time, trying to convince myself I am happy where I work. The problem is, I do not have to convince myself - I just have to realize that there are so many positive things that happen within my day, that they beat out the negative.

Happiness is something we choose. Happiness can be found anywhere, if you change your thoughts to be grateful instead of hateful.

This can be difficult - trust me, I know! I am not saying you have to stay where you are for your whole life. But as someone wise once said to me "do not view it as a final destination, but as a means of transportation and a way to finance your passion and help you discover your true value in this world".

There is so much in this world to hate. But what happens when we turn that hate into love? We only have so much time on earth, and it can be hard to find happiness, love and optimism.

Small Steps. First, you must change your thoughts. Challenge them - every, single, day. Second, do not give up. It will be difficult and you will want to stop. The reward is worth the effort. Third, keep in mind that everyone deserves to be happy; don't you deserve to be happy?

Life is hard (no, life is a GIFT). It is as simple as that. Challenging your thoughts is the hardest, yet most rewarding part. You can say no to yourself, and to your thoughts. It WILL TAKE TIME, though. So do not give up. Be strong, my friends.

Am I there? Have I achieved this wonderful thing I speak of? Absolutely not - I work on it, every, single, day. I have, however, come a very long way from where I used to be.... I will not give up and I will find the joy and happiness in life's journey. Because I do not want to look back and say "Where did my life go? What did I experience? Why did I hate so much?"

There is a lot to experience. There is a lot to enjoy. There is a lot a lot to regret, if we believe that our jobs are a dead end, and nowhere near satisfying.

Life is short. Be You. Live your Truth. Be True
